The Twin Falls Education Foundation hosted its annual Red Apple Gala on April 16, 2026. The event celebrated educators and community leaders who make an impact on children in the TFSD.
Superintendent Dr. Brady Dickinson and Foundation Executive Director Katie Rickert presented awards to several outstanding individuals whose dedication and heart continue to shape the lives of local students.
2026 Teacher of the Year Recipients
The Foundation’s highest honor for educators recognizes one elementary and one secondary teacher who exemplify academic excellence, spur innovation, and illustrate deep care for student well-being.
Parker Twiss, Elementary Teacher of the Year (Harrison Elementary): Known for turning his 1st-grade classroom into a “camp” where students feel safe and inspired, Parker Twiss was honored for his incredible ability to meet every child where they are. Whether using sign language to support a student with a speech delay or planting flowers for science lessons, Parker is celebrated by parents and colleagues alike for building confidence and a true sense of belonging.
Danya Peters, Secondary Teacher of the Year (Twin Falls High School): A dynamic Business teacher, Danya Peters has built a program that bridges the gap between school and the real world. From leading student-run retail operations to helping students earn industry certifications, Danya is a "connector" whose high expectations and infectious energy, often described by colleagues as an "aura," prepare students for life after graduation.
Playmaker of the Year Awards
In partnership with the Idaho Playground Project, these awards recognize educators who understand that play and inclusive connection are essential to student development.
Clair Oberg, Elementary Playmaker of the Year (Oregon Trail Elementary): A Special Education teacher who prioritizes connection above all else, Clair was recognized for creating a classroom that serves as a safe harbor. By reaching out to families before the year even begins and tailoring play to meet each child's sensory and emotional needs, she ensures that all students feel seen and valued.
Taylor Hall, Secondary Playmaker of the Year (Robert Stuart Middle School): Taylor Hall brings play and engagement into a place many students find daunting: the math classroom. By using puzzles, interactive technology, and a supportive atmosphere where it is safe to struggle and try again, Taylor has transformed middle school math into a space of confidence and growth.
Community and Service Honors
The gala also recognized community members and retired educators whose contributions provide the foundation for district success.
Partner in Education Award: Rich Stivers – This award recognizes Stivers as a pillar of the Foundation’s support system, someone who stepped in during the early, unpolished years to help turn visionary ideas into reality. A proud veteran known for his direct and thoughtful leadership, Stivers has earned a reputation for being a "steady yes," offering consistent advocacy and resources long before programs like the Red Apple Gala were proven successes. His partnership is defined by a deep-seated respect for educators; he views them not just as professionals, but as people doing the community’s most vital work. By listening carefully, asking the right questions, and showing up with unwavering commitment, Stivers has played an undeniable role in shaping a culture that celebrates and elevates the entire Twin Falls School District.
Jerry Kleinkopf Award: Mike and JoAnn Gemar – This award honors retired educators who continue to give back. Mike Gemar, a former administrator known for his student-focused presence and his heart for Special Olympics, and JoAnn Gemar, a lifelong champion for at-risk students and families, were celebrated for a combined legacy of service that has changed countless lives in Twin Falls.
“Tonight reminds us that education isn't just about curriculum; it's about the people who show up, listen, and care,” said Katie Rickert. “From our Teachers of the Year to our community partners, these recipients represent the very best of Twin Falls.”
